How has College Forward impacted you?
In my senior year of high school, I joined College Forward and I had the opportunity to learn how to create resumes, apply for colleges, scholarships, and how to apply for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). I also learned more about how federal and private loans work.
What advice would you give to high school seniors?
My advice to current seniors and juniors is to join programs offered by organizations such as College Forward to get a better understanding of college and prepare for it as well. I hope they can apply to FAFSA, complete standardized tests like SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), ACT (American College Test), and TSI (Texas Success Initiative), as well as apply to their universities of choice as soon as possible to get higher chances of getting scholarships and admission.
What stood out to you about the University of Houston, and what factors led to your major of choice?
I chose to go to the University of Houston because of the fact that it is a tier research institution ranked number 5 in best Texas universities to get bachelor’s degree in biology, its relatively affordable cost of tuition and boarding as well as proximity from home. I chose to major in biology in order to go to medical school and become a physician in the future.
Who inspires you in your work?
My family is my inspiration; they push me to be the best I can be and work hard to get to where I want to be in the future. With this in mind, I hope to work diligently towards my short term and long term goals.
What is your favorite quote and why?
My favorite quote is from Dracula, a novel by Bram Stoker, which says that “we learn from our mistakes, not our successes”. I love this quote because everyone makes mistakes, so it is important to learn from those mistakes and make progress.
Who is your favorite artiste right now?
Currently, Adele is my favorite artiste. I am very fond of some of her songs.
